V: Fruition
After Lisa’s “attack”, Anna threatens to leave Earth forcing Chad and humanity to beg for her to stay.
The V’s have always seemed to have far more power than the small group of resistance members trying to fight them but a possible miracle solution is presented to them in “Fruition”; lizard poison.
Lisa is found beaten and bruised by the side of the street, apparently by the Fifth Column. She identifies two men as her attackers, Kyle and another man, Lawrence Parker (“Stargate Atlantis” star Paul McGillion). Erica suggests that looking for Parker should be the focus of the FBI since so far their searches for Hobbes have been fruitless. Anna announces that because of the violence, the V’s will be leaving. Kyle tracks down Parker and removes his hard drive before calling Erica to tell her the location of the apartment. Chad is refused access to Anna and thus is forced to do exactly what she wants and make a public plea that everyone encourage the V’s to stay on Earth. Erica finds Parker who tells her that he and his co workers had created a substance that was poisonous for reptiles thus explaining why the Visitors want him out of the way. Before Erica can let him go the rest of the FBI team arrives and she is forced to arrest him. The V’s agree to stay on Earth provided they are allowed to deal with Hobbes and Parker. Kyle contacts Marcus and offers him Parker’s research for freedom from the Visitors framing him and money.
Finally on “V” the Fifth Column could actually obtain something that would destroy the Visitors. For weeks all we’ve seen of the Fifth Column is Erica, Jack, Ryan, Kyle and Joshua occasionally blowing things up and sending messages but nothing they’ve done has been anywhere near big enough to take down the Visitors. Who knows what the other members have been doing or how many of them actually exist. Frankly I was a little surprised when Marcus said that the V’s were more scared than they had ever been of the Fifth Column because as an audience member I’d say they haven’t been doing much. With the addition of Parker’s research though, they could actually threaten Anna and the rest of the Visitors. Of course at the moment Kyle is trying to sell the research to Marcus. Kyle hasn’t exactly been the most trustworthy member of the group doing background checks so he could find the skeletons in the closet of all his co conspirators and secretly meeting with Samantha Ferris’ character on occasion. Still I’m not exactly sure what he’s been planning. He must have already known about Parker’s research to know that stealing the hard drive would be a good idea. If he’s so willing to sell the research to the V’s I’m not entirely sure why he didn’t decide to sell the secrets of the Fifth Column to them from the beginning. Maybe he has been and we just haven’t seen it. He did know how to contact Marcus after all.
I’m interested to see the development of the relationship between Erica and Lisa now that they both have an idea that they could help each other in the fight against Anna. In the end of the episode we see Lisa has grown away from her mother and towards the humans to the point that the bliss is no longer working on her. Erica’s talk about making sure she was certain about who had assaulted her will hopefully give Lisa the hint that Erica may be someone she can trust. That and they both are connected to Joshua.
On the other side, Ryan is trying to lose his emotions as best he can to avoid the pain of losing Valerie. We don’t exactly know how emotions in V’s work but it does appear at the end of the episode that Ryan is again able to feel some effect from Anna’s bliss. This could be problematic for the Fifth Column as well if he were to return to the V’s. I find it hard to believe that someone who was so against the Visitors and their methods would be willing to return only because of the bliss. Meanwhile, Dr. Perlman sends Ryan a text that Val’s water has broken meaning that someday soon we’ll hopefully get to see the baby.
“V” is clearly trying to build up the finale to be big. From the looks of things the soldiers will be hatching (unless the Fifth Column manage to destroy them), and the V fleet will be arriving. I can only hope it will be a good fight.
